The weekend of New Years, we headed back to New Wilmington for the wedding of two of our good friends. Traveling across PA is a whole different ballgame with two kids! It took us 9 long hours to get there, and we were greeted by snow that continued for the entire weekend and an average temperature of 15 degrees! I didn't think I would miss NJ, but that weather made me thankful for the more mild winters here.
It was a whirlwind weekend, full of catching up with friends who we hadn't seen since we moved in May. I spent a day mostly kid-free (rare, those days!!) working on the flowers for the wedding. It's nice to get the opportunity to have a creative outlet doing something I love once in a while. Brian did a great job watching the kids!

The wedding was a fun and crazy day. The snow was gorgeous and made a perfect setting for a winter wedding in the woods. Our kids, however, were a slightly different story! The time of the wedding fell right when Abby would normally be napping. Coupled with a very late night the evening before, this is how she spent the wedding service.
Brian spent the service shushing Abby to keep her quiet and trying to keep her from escaping from our row of seats and running about the room, which is what she really wanted to do. I spent the service rocking Joshua, who was screaming when the ceremony began. We both breathed a sigh of relief when the ceremony ended!

During the reception, we were seated near the candy bar. Oh dear... Abby snuck a Hershey's kiss and proceeded to hide it under her chin. Of course, it melted, and she ended up covered in chocolate. When Brian tried to clean her up, she succumbed to being overtired and threw a fit...right when the pastor was praying for the meal. So, Brian made her coat into a pillow and stuck her under the gift table for a rest.

Good thinking! She didn't sleep, but she did have some quiet time, and we got to eat dinner. Joshua just hung out in his bouncy seat, ever our mellow man. He looked quite dapper, too, if I do say so myself.

After the wedding festivities, the reception ended in a square dance. Abby thought the dancing was great fun, and the bride and groom snatched her up for a dance. She was so tired by that point that she was completely wound up. We decided we should call it a night and head home. Abby was asleep within 10 minutes of getting in the car (it was about 5:30) and slept all the way home. We changed her, put her right to bed, and she slept until 8am! She has never slept that long! She must have been exhausted from all the excitement. It was a great weekend, and the kids were good despite us stretching their limits a bit. We loved seeing our friends and our old neighborhood. Somehow, though, it made NJ seem more like home. It felt good to come back.

yeah, we were totally in your position at Josh's sister's wedding in October. But it was even harder, because all four of us were IN the wedding. It was also outside, freezing cold, and at night. I think only Josh had a good time, but that's ok -- it was about his sis & her man, and Josh's family. I left early with the kids!
and yes, quite dapper!!
ps HILARIOUS that she laid down under the table!!!!! what was in that sippy cup??!!
